Looking Towards The Future

Workshops for 2018

Next summer the AGA is planning to host it’s 3rd Annual three-day teacher workshop at UCA. The focus of the workshop will be National Geographic’s National Initiative-teaching with the Geo-Inquiry Process. Similar in format to the past two summers, it will run Tuesday through Thursday, probably in mid-July, and other than a registration fee, the Arkansas Geographic Alliance should be able to cover expenses for travel, lodging, meals, and materials. More specific information to follow. Lots of maps and materials provided and 18 PD credits.

New Direction for the Arkansas Geographic Alliance

After three decades of supporting our State Alliance, National Geographic is making an organization shift away from the National State Alliance Network. This means that the Arkansas Geographic Alliance will be phased out at the end of October 2018. National Geographic will continue to support K-12 geography and teachers, especially at the middle-school level, but within a different format and organizational structure. Our hope is the Department of Geography at UCA (the only stand-alone geography department in the state and centrally located for workshops) will continue to be involved, and Dr. Steve O’Connell, the new chair of that department, has applied for the new State Steward position. The Alliance leadership team will continue to support geographic education in the state and will assist him in any way so rest assured, the spirit of the Alliance will not fade away!
