As some of you know, the state in conjuncture with the Arkansas Geographic Alliance and the University of Central Arkansas are hosting workshops in the upcoming months. These workshops are intended to provide introductory level GIS experience to those teachers which may be encountering the software for the first time and supplement a teachers repertoire of tools in preparation of Geography being reintroduced into the curriculum.

This site is the gathering place for teachers, university professors, teacher candidates, parents and others who are interested in improving geography education in Arkansas. This site is devoted and committed to providing vital information to educators that will assist them as they combat the ills of geographic illiteracy.
Geographic knowledge and associated skills are critical for living in an economically and ecologically interconnected world. For those reasons, the central goal of the Arkansas Geographic Alliance is to advocate and improve geographic literacy through professional development in geography, raising teachers’, students’, and parents’ awareness of geography’s role in understanding our world, and to developing quality geography educational materials.
